Taranaki Amber Brew to back the Amber & Blacks

With a nod to the good people of Taranaki, Shining Peak Brewing have brewed a brand new beer, ‘Taranaki Amber’, a nostalgic celebration of the classic NZ Draught style famously served in frosty handles around the country. Coming in a limited edition Taranaki Rugby can, this 4% Amber Lager sparks the beginning of a brand new partnership between the Taranaki Rugby Football Union and Shining Peak Brewing in what is understood to be the first time that a small independent brewery has been the major Beer partner of Taranaki Rugby.

Jesse Sigurdsson, Head Brewer at Shining Peak created the beer on the back of large amounts of reading and research. “This style of Beer is a challenging one to get right. It’s easy to make a full flavoured, strong brew and throw a tonne of ingredients at it. But when you’re trying to create an easy drinking brew, with subtle flavours like this one, there’s a lot more room for error”.

“We’re really excited about the partnership with Taranaki Rugby for a raft of reasons. As a community-focussed brewery, it’s great to get in behind the local Rugby Union as it’s been an extremely trying few years for them. We are hoping that our beer offering at the games in Inglewood will reinvigorate the experience for the fans and perhaps help to attract a new audience” he said. “We’ve also wanted to brew a distinctly ‘Taranaki’ Beer for a while now - something along the lines of Gisborne Gold or Waikato Draught that our locals can drink with pride of their region and I think we’ve nailed that.”

Taranaki Rugby Business Development Manager Jimmy Fastier says the Shining Peak Brewing pourage relationship will help keep things local and engage the Taranaki rugby community.

"We believe our pourage partnership with Shining Peak Brewing will help inspire an emotional connection with our fans. Our supporters will be able to enjoy a locally produced drop while cheering on their team”, he said.

From mid-September (upon a move to Alert Level 1) Taranaki Amber will be available at all five matches held at the TET Stadium & Events Centre in Inglewood, along with Shining Peak’s Highwayman American Pale Ale and Bogworks Pilsner - two of their most popular brews.
