Yarrows Taranaki Bulls head coach Willie Rickards has made three changes for the second Chiefs Centurions Cup match against Counties Manukau on Saturday in Hamilton.

The changes are mainly in the forward pack after Taranaki’s loss to Bay of Plenty 43-5 at FMG Stadium Waikato in the first match of the new mini competition a fortnight ago.

Jared Profitt has been named at tighthead prop in place of Crusader Faletagoa’i who moves to the bench.

Flanker Tom Florence also returns to the run-on XV for Christian Fa’avae for the first time this season.

There is one change in the backs where halfback Josh Walden, Teihorangi’s brother, returns home after playing rugby in Hong Kong and is currently teaching at Francis Douglas. He replaces Lisati Milo-Harris.

On the bench, ranging flanker Michael Loft returns in place of Cole Blyde.

Rickards said the Chiefs Cup matches are a great opportunity to players outside of the Super Rugby group to earn valuable game time.

“It’s a great opportunity for our Bayleys Bulls Academy players and wider training group to be able to put their hands up for Mitre 10 Cup selection later in the year.”

Jarrad Hoeata, who was part of the coaching group for the game against Bay of Plenty, has highlighted some defensive lapses which have been a priority for the team around the trainings this week.

Their opponents, Counties Manukau, lost to Waikato two weeks ago.
