More exposure for Port Taranaki Whio in the Farah Palmer Cup

MEDIA RELEASE
4 October 2019

The Port Taranaki Whio will have another opportunity to showcase the region’s topflight women players on television when they face North Harbour in the Farah Palmer Cup at QBE Stadium tonight.

The Whio will play in their fourth televised match after SKY Sport covered their matches against Otago, Tasman and Hawkes Bay.

By the end of the season, SKY will televise 21 round robin Farah Palmer Cup matches, outside of the finals, with most of them double headers to Mitre 10 Cup matches.

Peterson said SKY’s increased coverage is great for showcasing women’s rugby and it also promotes the hard work done in Taranaki to give women’s rugby more profile.

Looking ahead to North Harbour, Peterson was ecstatic about the side’s performance against Northland in Inglewood last weekend, despite losing 22-12.

“We had better ball retention and improve set piece which they look to improve tonight.

“We are building well into our quarter final next week and looking to put a complete performance together as we’ve shown good matches in games so far,” he said.

Peterson and head coach Matt Stone have only made a few changes.

Prop Bethany Gibbs picked up an injury last weekend and will be replaced by Donia King in the run-on XV.

Lock Jessica Lampe earns a start after making an impact off the bench in Inglewood and wing Alesha Williams swaps with Brooke Neilson to gain a start.

Kick off is at 5:35pm.
